Every year, millions of Americans in America donate money to charity. Even though a high percentage (over 71%) of these donations are cash, a large and increasing number of people have been
opting to donate a car, instead of selling it as a used car. This is done in places such as New York (NY - NYC), Los Angeles (LA) California (CA), San Diego, San Francisco, Texas (TX), Boston Massachusetts (MA), Maryland (MD), New Jersey (NJ), Washington DC, Ohio (OH), Chicago Illinois (IL), Virginia (VA), Michigan (MI), Minnesota (MN), Seattle Washington (WA), Connecticut (CT), Arizona (AZ), Pennsylvania (PA), Austin Texas (TX), Orlando Florida (FL), North Carolina (NC), Georgia (GA), and even Canada (Montreal, Toronto) and the UK (London, Manchester England).
By donating a car or other type of vehicle to a charitable Jewish organization or Jewish institution is a good way to earn a large tax deduction, while doing a good deed, helping someone and feeling good about yourself. It is always a good idea to consult your accountant or the IRS first but as a general rule you can usually get a deduction for donating a car.
If you have an old car that you might have trouble selling to a dealer, this is a good method to make some money by donating it. Sometimes, you can even get more value out of you car by donating it to a charity (Jewish or not) instead of selling it, while giving assistance to a charitable organization. Some will even do free pickup (pick-up).
Charities use these donated cars to create money for themselves by selling them to others, very often for less then they are worth. There are now many charities that take donated automobiles. You can donate all types of vehicles, such as boats, planes, motorcycles, and trucks.
On this page, I will list some organizations, associations, and charities that you can donate a car to, helping yourself and the charity. In addition to the charities and foundations I list below
you can also donate to your local Red Cross, Goodwill, Cancer Society, or Salvation Army.
