Hebrew Support Frequently Asked Questions
I put together this list of Frequently Asked Questions about the various Hebrew options for the Palm because I was getting many E-mails from people all asking the same questions. I will try and answer those questions on this page. If you still have questions, please feel free to E-mail me, and remember if you are interested in reading or writing Hebrew on your Palm, now is a great time to buy either LionHeb or PiLoc as I am providing a discount on these two pieces of software for PilotYid visitors on my Discount Page.
Questions
What are the differences between the various Hebrew options for the Palm, like LionHeb and PiLoc?
Many people were wondering what the differences were between PiLoc, LionHeb and the Hebrew Support from Penticon. I put together this chart to illustrate the differences. If it is stil unclear, please E-mail me. Please note the numbers throughout the chart, they go to the footnotes under the chart.

1. These are Palms running the PalmOS version 5. For example, the Tungsten, Zire 71/72, Treo 600, and some new Clies. To find out what version of the PalmOS your Palm has, see this page.
2. To read DOC files, you must also install a DOC reader (such as TealDoc) on your Palm. You can find some good DOC readers in the Viewers Section of the PilotYid Software Collection.
3. LionHeb comes with LionMemo which allows you to write Hebrew memos.
4. LionHeb comes with LionDoc which is a DOC reader that is also able to read Hebrew DOC files. You do not need to install another DOC reader.
I already purchased Hebrew Support+ or Hebrew Lite from Penticon, do I have to pay for LionHeb or PiLoc?
If you purchases Hebrew Support+ or Hebrew Lite in the past, then you purchased it from a company called Penticon, as they are the company that makes and sells that software (not PilotYid or anyone else). LionHeb and Hebrew PiLoc are made by different companies, not Penticon, so they will not offer a free or discounted upgrade from Penticon's Hebrew software. If you were using Hebrew from Penticon and it no longer works on your new Palm, it is because their software does not work on PalmOS 5, both PiLoc and LionHeb do. See the last question below if you are wondering whether Penticon has Hebrew software for PalmOS 5.
Will LionHeb or PiLoc provide me with a Jewish calendar on my Palm?
Neither LionHeb or PiLoc includes a Jewish/Hebrew calendar with the software. Although, both companies offer a Jewish Calendar application sold separately - Paragon sells TopCal and LionScribe sells HebDate. If you had been using the Luach software from Penticon and it no longer works in Hebrew on your new Palm, or integrates with the DateBook it is probably because the version of their software that you have does not work in Hebrew on PalmOS 5. Using PiLoc you might be able to get the Hebrew back in the Luach application (you can try the demo to find out), but it will not fix the integration with the DateBook. See the last question below if you are wondering when Luach will be available for PalmOS 5.
Will LionHeb or PiLoc work on my Palm, Treo, Clie, etc?
Both LionHeb and PiLoc should work on all new Palm devices running PalmOS 5, including the Tungsten, Zire 71/72, Treo 600, LifeDrive, and Clies, as well as older Palm devices running PalmOS 3 & 4. Note that if you would like to use PiLoc (not LionHeb) on PalmOS 3 or 4, you will have to buy/download the version made for PalmOS 3 & 4, which is also available on my Discounts Page. The best thing to do is download the trial/demo version of the software you are interested in, and just try it out. If you are having trouble running LionHeb or PiLoc on your Palm please contact the author of the software for help. If you need to figure out what version of the PalmOS your Palm is running, you can see this page for help.
Will there be discounts on other software in the future, such as dictionaries or Jewish calendars?
Yes. Besides the discounts on LionHeb and PiLoc, I am currently offering discounts on other software on my Discount Page, such as Hebrew dictionaries. I am also in talks with other companies about providing discounts on new Jewish calendar software. If you are on my Announcement E-Mail list, you will be notified of those discounts when they are available.
Will Penticon ever have a version of their Hebrew Support or Luach for the newer Palms (OS5)?
Many of you have been using Hebrew Support+ from Penticon, but it no longer works on newer Palms that run on PalmOS 5. I have asked Penticon in the past if they have an estimate as to when they will have this software working on PalmOS, but they do not have any estimate. So, if you are interested in writing Hebrew on your Palm again, PiLoc and LionHeb are your two options. Now is a good time to buy one as I am providing a discount on these two pieces of software for PilotYid visitors on my Discount Page.
